Heather Crawford, creator of GameComposer™ conducted the recent workshop at DAYTiME 2017. Heather has a particular passion for video games and their soundtracks. She was commissioned by MusicEDU to write GameComposer with the view to opening up this dynamic and ever-evolving topic to music educators who are keen to find out more. Heather has developed curriculum content for students in years 9 and 10 that captivate and engage her students, immersing them in the science and technology of video game music.
GameComposer gives you, the teacher, everything you need to teach your students video game composition, analysis and musicology. When using GameComposer in the classroom, your students will be engaged in a journey through video game composition and creation from the 1970s to present day. They will learn the cultural, social and historical aspects of the genre as well as aural, compositional techniques and analysis skills associated with this hugely popular topic.
Heather Crawford is currently the Performing Arts co-coordinator at Engadine High School (NSW) leading a team of dedicated classroom music and dance teachers. Their award-winning extracurricular performing arts program consists of over 250 students involved in Dance, Drama, Band and Vocals. Their elective program is one of the most popular subjects at the school.
