Teenagers love urban music and they love learning how to create it.
In 2020, the Electronic Dance Music Industry had a total income of $7 billion. DJing remains one of the fastest-growing segments in the Music Products industry.
The average age of a DJ is 14 years old, based on a survey conducted by SIS International Research. With such booming popularity, it is no wonder that students are into the EDM genre and interested in having a go at DJing themselves.
It's now become a popular hobby for many students and therefore is no wonder students love it when it's brought into the classroom.
Teenagers love music, and they love video games.
You may not realise it, but video games are already ten times the revenue of films and three times music, making the video game industry a more significant moneymaker than the global movie and North American sports industries combined.
And among Generation Z, only 10% prefer to watch a TV show or a film. Compare that to 26% who want to play a video game. In between are 14% who listen to music, 12% wander around the internet, and 11% spend their time on social media. Among those born between 1983-1996 (nee millennials), Movies and TV still rule.*
It’s no wonder students love it when we incorporate Gaming into the Music Classroom - it speaks to their real-world view of music.
